I used this company last week whilst going to Turkey for dental treatment. Unfortunately I had to start a claim as I need to return this week & sort a problem with a possible bruised or compressed nerve in lower gum. Far too many hoops to jump through, especially when asking for about 5 different pieces of information concerning the original treatment. I asked my dental clinic to pass them on, but so far they have not. I started the claim on the Monday morning & was ready to book flights for Tuesday morning & return Friday. Time is very important for this type of re-treatment. However they tell you, you will NOT be covered until they receive all that information & then authorise you to go. The form also asks how much your claiming etc, which nobody knows till they have travelled. Clinic is covering hotel & treatment. I've had to go ahead and book flights anyway. All I would have been claiming is approx £300 for return flights & they would have paid £50pd whilst staying (3 days) so about £450 then they deduct £250. They also ask you to take out new Insurance for this unexpected trip. What a rip off, I will be making a complaint to the FSA when I get back. Wish I had just used the insurance the clinic offered, but due to pre-existing medical conditions, I thought best to get my own. If going for dental treatment abroad, let your clinic sort it, they can then handle the correspondence.

I’ve been to Budapest for medical treatment 6 times now and have always used this company for my specific ‘going abroad for medical work’ and my wife, family and friends have also been and used them. We’ve never had to claim admittedly but we’ve always been reassured by there global size of the business and the reviews we read. Obviously, as with any insurance be overly upfront and honest with them and they will say if something matters or not as this will stop any hindrances if you need to claim.

The policy was exactly what I meeded and very simple to sort out.price was also very reasonable.

Simplicity and superb customer service that is above and beyond other insurance companies. I have used Medical Travel Shield twice and both times the quotes were very fairly priced. When I called for clarification on some of the cover points, the phone was answered quickly and the representative took the time to explain things to me and answer all of my questions. I did have to make a claim unfortunately and the whole process was fair and simple. The claims team provided guidance and acted promptly when the timing of my claim was a factor. They were sympathetic and very human which was a breath of fresh air. I am travelling again in October and will be choosing MTS, I wouldn’t ever go anywhere else. A special mention about Laura at MTS who has been professional, efficient, kind, proactive and empathetic throughout. Thank you.

You never know how good your insurance company is, until you come to make a claim.

I traveled to Nordes - Lithuania for surgery - however I developed a seroma in my neck resulting instead of my original 12 days post surgery to 30 days before I could return back to UK
Thankfully most was covered by Medishield
