Very confusing to find where you are going, terrible door options when waiting for flight, long delays , bad Que systems , ques in front of escalators for example just an absolute mess can’t remember the last time I went to an airport this bad

We arrived at Munich Airport on a BA flight from Heathrow and were taken by bus to a side door which led to a flight of concrete steps and a non working escalator. It then took an hour to clear passport control, there were a large number of elderly people on the flight who found the experience very stressful. I am aware that being British meant we were not able to pass through the EU passport control but we did feel we were deliberately held up.

Baggage claim is the worst, 50+ min wait time to claim your baggage and the personal at baggage claim/track are clueless and not even trying to help.

Unfreundlich, habe beobachtet wie das Personal, die Reisenden sehr Unfreundlich und laut Auskunft gegeben haben.
Dann im Gate Bereich bekommt man um 5 Uhr morgens nichts zu trinken auch keinen Kaffee, alles geschlossen!!!
Für mich ist das ein schlechter Service gehört deshalb für mich zu den schlechtesten Flughäfen.

We arrived in München airport for a connecting flight to Brussels (being Belgian). All automated border control terminals were closed and we needed
to lign up in a massive queue with only 2 people to check passports for all arrivals. We almost missed are connecting flight and had to run with all the extra stress. Disappointed in the German approach !

Awful. First you have to walk a mile to the bag drop at T1a, then another mile back to T1b to go through security. Security itself is slow and inefficient as are passports. Minimal shops and bad restaurants. Avoid if possible

Very bad signage - walked miles before finding where I should be. Boards confusing and conflicting. No one around to ask questions. Bag drop slow. Security slow . Nothing compared to passport control which was unbelievably slow with 2 people doing passport. Toilets - ladies no toilet paper or soap. Water fountain - I queued for 1 hour to use this snd the man’s behind the bar would fill my bottle. What a horrible horrible person. Water bottle machine that you pay for was broken . This is the worst airport I have ever been to. Terminal 1

I put 1 star bc I cant put less. Security stole my belt. It was a very good belt and they did not return it to me. Then I claimed it as lost property and surprise they didnt have it. Im pretty sure they took it.

Awful. Signage and layout is a mess, check-in staff spent most of the time on the phone or consulting colleagues as they didn’t seem experienced. Facilities in T1 after security are shocking - whatever you do, please eat before clearing security. Toilets dysfunctional. One men’s toilet smelt like an exhibition from the London Dungeon, and has no toilet paper (which thankfully I noticed first!). The second gas no men’s facility at all. The third was under an inch of water around the cubicles and could be used. Fly from somewhere else.

This used to be such a splendid airport in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Sadly, it didn't progress or at least keep pace with new requirements. There is ONE!!!! socket one the floor next to lady's toilet in terminal C. After our flight was delayed, many people desperately tried to recharge their laptops and mobile phones.
Many areas were cordoned off for renovation.
Even though checking in at C and flying from C, you are taken on a 20 minute walk all along the 1st floor right to terminal B, then forced downstairs and sent back to C. Who on earth is responsible for this? This airport has definitely gone downhill big time.

Rude staff. Poor signage to baggage drop.
Massive wait at passport control (to leave!!)
No water points to top up water bottles.
Awful!! Will never use this airport again.

Wat een compleet drama dit vliegveld. Personeel dat grauwt naar reguliere personen, maar flirt met mooie dames, complete chaos bij transfer na een vlucht van bijna 14 uur, onvriendelijk, onduidelijke bewegwijzering, 4 securitypoortjes voor 3 volle vliegtuigen, wagentjes die door de wachtrijen heenrijden. Als je kan, vermijd dit vliegveld!

I am flying in and out of Munich - internationally now for many years.

Luggage and passport control take longer here than in the other airports I use. The luggage caroussel is overwhelmed by a A380, passengers slow through the passportcontrol cant pick up their luggage and have their luggage blocking the caroussel.

Thats maybe still acceptable - but flying out 23/8/2025 I noticed the toilets in the public area and especially at the Gate (Terminal 2) were a shocker. Filthy. Strong urine smell, shit in the toilets, broken toilets. Whats going on? the airport used to be OK, maybe even good and effective?

I was glad to get out of it. Dubai, Singapore Brisbane all way better these days.

This has to be the slowest least organized passport control on the planet! I have been to dozens of countries. This is so far behind the second worst I have ever experienced it it beyond’s words.
300 people queuing with 2 passport people. PATHETIC. Munich airport you should hang your heads in shame.

Absolut inakzeptabel! Nach dem Flug von Shanghai nach München musste ich trotz extrem knapper Umsteigezeit erneut in die Sicherheitskontrolle. Anstatt Verständnis oder Unterstützung zu zeigen, wurde ich von Anfang an unfreundlich und respektlos behandelt. Die Kontrolle war völlig überzogen – meine Schuhe wurden mehrfach gescannt, mein gesamtes Handgepäck auseinandergerissen und ich wurde behandelt, als hätte ich etwas zu verbergen. Am Ende durfte ich mein Chaos selbst hektisch wieder zusammenpacken, während mein Anschlussflug auf dem Spiel stand. So ein Umgang mit Reisenden ist schlicht eine Zumutung!

Awful! Passport control - slow, duty free overpriced, limited choice, limited food choices. Toilets absolutely disgusting. Racist staff. Zero star for this Airport

Terminal 1. Filthy and disorganised

Hohe Parkgebühren, unfreundliche Menschen, viele Geschäfte sind geschlossen, erst nach der Sicherheitskontrolle ist es etwas besser.
Zum Besuch wie vor 2 Jahren lohnt sich die Fahrt nicht mehr! Somit sind auch Events uninteressant geworden

I travel often and have used airports across Europe, Africa, and North America, but nothing compares to the dysfunctional mess that is Munich Airport Departures.

From the moment you enter, it’s clear this airport is in serious need of a redesign – both physically and culturally. The signage is abysmal, often missing entirely, placed in confusing positions, or simply contradicting earlier directions. If you’re not already stressed, navigating this airport will get you there fast.

The layout defies all logic and international convention. Rather than a coherent flow from check-in to departures, you’re herded through a maze of escalators, corridors, and bottlenecks that seem deliberately designed to frustrate. It feels like whoever designed this airport had never set foot in a functioning one.

Then there’s the staff. It’s rare to encounter such consistently rude, dismissive, and unhelpful personnel across multiple touchpoints. Basic questions are met with sighs, eye rolls, or outright hostility. Hospitality and professionalism appear to be foreign concepts here.

And if you think it ends there, wait until you reach passport control – or rather, the understaffed chokepoint that pretends to be passport control. Long queues snake back through the terminal with barely a handful of officers on duty, while staff nearby seem indifferent to the mounting delays.

In short, Munich Airport Departures is an international disgrace. It combines bureaucratic indifference, architectural incompetence, and customer service contempt into one deeply frustrating experience. Unless absolutely unavoidable, I will be routing all future travel elsewhere.

Flughafen nach Teneriffa!

Super freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Obwohl viel los war, gab es ein freundliches Lächeln, von den offenbar gut gelaunten Personal.

Hatte die 20 kg überschritten, durfte aber in Ruhe umpacken.
Wir fliegen gerne von München aus, weil alles gut organisiert ist und die Mitarbeiter sehr freundlich sind!
