I attended my niece’s birthday party at The Gymnastics Academy in Castleford as a guest, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing for the children and the family who organised it.

When we arrived with the other guests, the area that had been booked for the party was already being used by another class. This meant that a group of excited children and parents were left standing around waiting while the situation was sorted out. It was uncomfortable for everyone involved, particularly for the host who had organised and paid for the party expecting the facilities to be available.

The party had been booked on the understanding that it included exclusive use of the space, but this clearly wasn’t what happened. Even later during the party, other classes and parents began arriving into the same area during the time that was meant to be set aside for food and cake. This made the space crowded and chaotic and took away from what should have been a special celebration for my niece.

What makes the situation even more disappointing is that the family who organised the party have been trying to resolve the issue and recover money that is owed to them, including a duplicate payment that the academy acknowledged had been taken due to a system error. As far as we understand, they are still still waiting for this to be refunded.

I also find it concerning that a number of recent 5-star reviews have appeared specifically about the Castleford site after the negative reviews about this experience were posted. Many of these profiles appear unusual and do not seem to reference attending this location previously. From the perspective of someone who was actually present at the party, our experience was very different from what those reviews suggest.

I am simply sharing this as an honest account of what we experienced as guests at the Castleford site, which unfortunately was stressful, poorly organised, and still unresolved for the family involved.

I attended a children’s birthday party at The Gymnastics Academy in Castleford as one of the guests. From a guest’s perspective, the situation was very stressful and uncomfortable for both the children and the parents.

When we arrived with the birthday child and the other guests, the area that had supposedly been booked for the party was already being used by another class. This meant the party could not begin as planned. As a result, a large group of children and parents were left standing around waiting with no clear direction about when the space would become available. The children were excited for the party but quickly became restless and confused as nothing seemed to be organised.

We had been told that the party booking included exclusive use of the facilities, but this clearly wasn’t the case. Even once the party eventually started, the disruption continued. During the time that was meant to be set aside for food and cake, another class began arriving into the same area along with their parents. This created a crowded and chaotic environment where the party guests no longer had the space that had supposedly been booked for them.

From the perspective of someone attending the party, it was very awkward to watch the host trying to manage the situation while also dealing with a room full of children who were waiting around and becoming increasingly unsettled. Several parents were left standing around unsure of what was happening, and the children missed out on the organised experience they had been expecting.

It was clear that the event had not been delivered as advertised. What should have been a relaxed and enjoyable birthday celebration instead turned into a stressful experience for the host, the children, and the parents attending.

Just reading these reviews, it seems never odd how all of them are either 1 star or 5 star, with many of the five star ones having reviewers reviewing foreign businesses too - in foreign languages. Some of the 'reviewers' also seem to be famous sports stars, which seems odd.

Hopefully the weight of complaints against this outfit will begin to cut through in a meaningful sense. They do attempt to take money that they're not entitled to. They tried to do it to me, but they're not clever enough.

Avoid

We attend the parent and toddler classes with Lauren on a Tuesday.
The classes are themed, fun and well structured. Each week there are different activities for the children to participate in, and new skills to learn - from climbing to handstands and forward rolls. I absolutely love that you can come to unlimited parent and toddler classes each week, as it makes sure we always have something to do.

Disappointing experience and taking more money after membership has been cancelled. They then block access to the app once cancelled but are more than happy to store card details and continue taking money. They’ve threatened and refused £152 refund if you leave a poor review, however no promise of a refund even if you leave a positive one.

The coaching is to a high standard and my kid had been thrilled 🤩 with the new skills and achievements she has completed, within the Sheffield academy.

I recently contacted this company for a trial for my daughter unfortunately we were unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances. They continued to take money out of my account even though we advised them we wouldn’t be joining. I have rang and emailed them on many different occasions to cancel and get a refund and just keep being fobbed off and told someone will contact me within 48 hours. After threatening to take it further I got a phone call to which the lady said to me I am in the wrong as a slot was saved for me so they had to the right to take the money even though we never had any information regarding courses.
They are quick to communicate if you want to join a trial but absolutely ridiculous if you have any issues.

the holiday camps were a massive hit with my kids they learned so much and enjoyed every minute

they provide a nurturing environment where kids can thrive and have fun at the same time

I am thrilled with the progress my child has made and the friendships formed

Disgraceful company. Billed us twice for one month and put it down to a payment error. Refused to give us a refund and stated they just wouldn't charge for the month after. Fine I could deal with that. Then booked my daughter's party there only to arrive to find no-one knew about it even tho we spoke to them two days before the party. We Had to allow other kids into her party to cater for classes they had on at the same time. Once again attempted to request some answers only to be completely ignored. They then removed us from the system taking the money that we were yet to use with them. All they care about is taking your money. Avoid !.

Update: after being informed my daughter's account has been cancelled and performing a charge back on them for the money they had taken. They have once again attempted to take payment this month. Do not give this company your card details. At this point it's looking like a border line scam.

the coaches are friendly and supportive making learning so much fun

We cancelled our daughter's membership in Oct and they continue to take payments every month even after constant calls, emails and texts. This company is a real scam, avoid at all costs.

I wish I'd read these reviews before contacting the gymnastics academy, unfortunately I didn't. Whatever you do, do not provide this company with your phone number, they will spam call/text you from multiple different mobile numbers, despite asking them to stop. I've actually had to report them to the ICO, absolute horror show of a company.

my children went here for 2 years and genrally enjoyed going. We have some personal issues where we couldn't attend and when i asked for support they refused. After 3 onths without attending and still paying £150 a month we requested to cancel and they i only acknowledged emails went sent several times. i cancelled the auto payment on my bank so they couldn't take anymore payments as they started ignoring all my emails. then 3 weeks after i cancelled they tried to take an additional 2 months of fees. They don't care about you, your family or your children. they don't care if you get a good serivce or if you attend, they only care about profit. they will move your children around to suit them, the staff are very nice but often very young and lacking in experience in lots of areas. it's gone down hill very rapidly in the last 6 months. please avoid. We won't be paying them any more money

Absolute scam of a company. Stay well aware.

Gave my bank details over the phone for a £1 trial in January which we never attended emailed to cancel and never get replies.

Continue to try take £200 out of my bank account for no services received. Took 1 month for them to respond to one email stating I agree to the term and conditions and these were sent in an email when paying the trial. No terms and conditions email ever received.

Still getting chased for money for not receiving any services two months later!

Scam, fraudulent and abusive behavior.
Facts: signed up for a trial, provided my credit card details for booking. Attended the class in Leeds. Poor and dirty environment, visibly no staff experience with children. Cancelled on the same day through email, acknowledging terms and conditions. After that there was exchanged quite more a few emails arguing about been cancelled and other hand saying I couldn't because the terms and conditions were other. For months they take multiple amounts of my credit card until reaching the limit or beyond. There's a dispute and the bank reverse all the payments but in fact there's nothing else possible to do. For months they take the money they want, and the bank reverses. They process payments of 100, then 50, when they cannot take 50, they take multiple of 10, when they cannot take 10, they take 5, 2, 1 pound till nothings left. It's gets eventually reversed, sometimes some missing reverses, and then all again. It's been draining, exhausting. I could get eventually, a confirmation of cancellation but they still charging.

I advise anyone dealing with this to report it to Citizens Advise as they can report it to Trading Standards. This is the only way to stop them, or taking legal action.

Unbelievable how a masked fraude lent company can exist in the UK, and nothing happened yet.

They don't even deserve a one-star rating. This is a complete scam; they are essentially stealing money from my bank account despite providing me with a written confirmation of my membership cancellation.
They charged us £150 a one month even though we never attended a single session. We contacted them 3–4 times via email and phone, and they confirmed 100% that the account was closed. Despite this, the charges continue. They have failed to provide any justification for why this is allowed under their Terms and Conditions. This is fraudulent and predatory behavior.
