Cancelled In Person, Still Charged
We cancelled our son's membership after significant staffing changes were made to the class. All members of staff were replaced without any prior communication to parents. These changes came as a surprise and, in our opinion, the class was no longer being delivered to the same standard we had originally signed up for.
We informed a member of staff in person on 9 May that Wilder would not be continuing. The academy has since acknowledged in writing that this conversation took place.
Our son did not attend any further classes after 9 May. A payment was then taken from our account and, when I queried this five days later, a further payment was taken stating this is notice period requirements.
Despite explaining our concerns about the staffing changes, the fact that we had verbally cancelled on 9 May, and that no further classes were attended, the academy chose to rely strictly on its written cancellation policy and now had 2 months payments from us.
The staff member we spoke to did not advise us that cancellations had to be submitted by email. Had we been informed of this requirement at the time, we would have done so immediately.
What disappointed us most was not the existence of the policy itself, but the lack of flexibility once it was clear that we had already communicated our intention to leave due to their changes and we had stopped attending.
Based on our experience, communication was poor, the changes to the class were not communicated to parents in advance, and the handling of the cancellation shows customer concerns are secondary over enforcing payment terms.
Since leaving, we have attended other gymnastics clubs in the Manchester area and have found them to be better organised and a better fit for our child.
Be very careful what you sign up for
Be very careful what you sign up for. You might think you are paying £10 for a trial. This is not the case you have signed for a membership and you will be immediately billed for the next month. You cannot get out of it and they will bombard you with emails and threaten court proceedings until you have paid.
Shocking billing practices and zero classes provided (Leeds Branch)
Absolutely appalling experience with the Leeds branch. The facility closed for weeks to move locations, meaning they provided zero classes during our mandatory 30-day notice period. They completely refused to refund a single penny for the sessions that didn't happen, forcing us to take it to a bank dispute.
To make matters worse, after our account was cancelled and explicitly marked as "Final Payment" in the parent portal, they used autopay to charge our card an annual insurance fee. Customer service has completely ignored our emails regarding this unauthorized charge. Proceed with cautio hidden fees and zero flexibility when they fail to provide the service themselves.
Chris J, The manager is really helpfully
Chris J the account manager was really helpful with my query, he responded quickly to my email and resolved my issue. A great account manager and id happily have him dealing with my query again.
Fraud / scam don't use just go through your bank to recover the payment
Booked a holiday camp place for my daughter which was later cancelled by the provider due to insufficient numbers. That's fine but no alternative dates were offered when the cancellation was communicated, so I naturally assumed a refund would be issued.
Instead, on the day the camp was due to take place, I received a notification from my bank that a further payment had been taken from my account without any prior communication or agreement.
When I contacted the company to request a refund for a service they had cancelled themselves, I was initially told that under their terms and conditions I was only entitled to transfer the booking to another date and not receive a refund.
It was only after I challenged this position that my refund request was referred for processing. O that's where it's now apparently been sat for over a week... In a processing queue because they have loads of refunds to process apparently. A task that takes a max 2 mins per refund.
Very disappointing customer experience. Cancelling a service due to lack of demand is one thing. Taking additional payment after cancellation and then initially refusing a refund is another.
I've raised this as fraud with my bank because that's what it essentially is.
Avoid at all costs
Avoid at all costs. The academy moved to a new location, making it impractical for us to continue attending, yet they still insisted on charging additional membership fees despite our child not attending classes for weeks. Customer service was unhelpful, and there was no flexibility or understanding regarding the circumstances created by their own relocation. The cancellation process felt unfair and focused more on collecting payments than supporting members. Very disappointing experience.
CHRIS J
CHRIS J. was a big help with all my concerns and gave me a good solution. I really appreciate his patience and willingness to understand my situation. I'm 100% happy with the service. Thanks a lot, Chris J.
I cannot recommend Gymnastics Academy…
I cannot recommend Gymnastics Academy to anyone. They hook you in with an offer but after this the Admin/finance is all outsourced to the Philippines, probably do to their treatment of staff in this country as outlined in Private Eye April 2026. You will spend hundreds of hours trying to get your money back after constantly taking incorrect amounts. They hold your card details and charge as and when they please. In the end I had to get my credit card company to retrieve the money and block from future payments after they deleted my account. I have left these reviews on Google but they delete and reset up the location to remove the countless 1 star reviews. DO NOT SIGN UP. IT IS NOT WORTH THE HOURS AND STRESS
Chris was really helpful with request
Chris was really helpful with request. He provided me with options and thankfully we found a suitable alternative. My son can continue his lessons, thanks to Chris!
Warning to parents — unusual auto-enrolment policy and poor complaint handling
I was attracted by a Facebook ad and contacted The Gymnastics Academy to arrange a trial session for my 2-year-old son. What followed was deeply concerning.
Before the trial, they sent an email outlining an unusual automatic enrolment policy — if you do not send a written opt-out email within 48 hours of the trial session, you are automatically enrolled into a £66 per month subscription. I sent my opt-out email within the required timeframe, yet I was still added to the subscription and charged.
When I asked for a refund, my emails were ignored. When I tried to raise a formal complaint, that was ignored too. They are now pestering me to pay outstanding subscription fees and threatening me, despite the fact that I never agreed to enrol.
I would urge any parent considering this company to be extremely cautious. The auto-enrolment system and their response to complaints raises serious concerns. I have reported this to Action Fraud, Citizens Advice, Trading Standards, and BBC Watchdog.
My daughter is 4 and is really wanting…
My daughter is 4 and is really wanting to progress her gymnastics. I signed up for the trial and all seemed okay. I signed her up and was charged £96 on the day for the first month fee and insurance. They charged me again the £96 as they didn’t realise I paid in branch! Took ages to get it sorted with multiple phone calls.
My daughter has been going for 1 month and I honestly wish I never bothered. As she’s 4 she doesn’t understand what the teachers were telling her to do. They just sit down and talk to each other and tell the kids to do an action. No clear guidance over what they should be doing. My daughter had to watch the other children and try and copy them!!
I ended up taking her home to show her what to do. Why should i do that if I’m paying them?!
I’ve cancelled today and they’ve still charged me a full month of classes I’m not going to be using. Absolute scammers. Avoid at all costs, don’t be influenced by their flashing adverts!!
Dishonest, misleading, nuisance calls and emails
Avoid this company at all costs. They harass you with calls and messages at unsocial times from the second you show an interest. I was blatantly lied to, told that classes were only cancelled for Christmas. Shortly after I signed up I learned classes are "always" (according to staff) cancelled for all school holidays to allow holiday clubs to run at the site (and generate more income). I tried to cancel membership as this was a clear breach of what I had agreed to, ended up being charged a cancellation fee.
I was harassed with emails, messages and calls up to four times a day until I paid the additional cancellation fee.
They refuse to answer the phone or respond to complaint emails and would not even discuss my issue with me (even hanging up when they called to chase the cancellation fee and I asked to discuss my complaint).
All in all one lesson cost me over £100 and a lot of stress. This has been reported to trading standards and I would encourage anyone else affected to do the same.
Owed 7 weeks of cancelled lessons!
Its a shame as my daughter enjoyed the fun classes but made no progress in a year. The Leeds site was closed down and a new due to open, 7 weeks we had cancellations, whislt payment was still been taken. I cancelled, was ignored repeatedly. I also complained that we had missed 7 weeks of classes that I had paid for! We were given 3 catch up 'tokens'... but no Leeds sites we're open to use these catch up tokens so an absolute waste of time. Now I've cancelled my membership, I'm not allowed to use the 3 catch up sessions. Stolen my money, I'm owed 7 weeks worth of sessions... at £14 a session the prices are extortionate and I'm massively out of pocket. Avoid!!
Misleading communications. Very poor
I booked a trial session for my two girls at the Trafford branch and afterwards they were undecided if they definitely wanted to join so I rang to cancel within the 48 hour cool off period so that I wasn’t charged the extortionate amount of of £66 each. I was then phoned by a team member who persuaded me to join back for £10 for one more month to see if the girls might like it and was told this was an extension trial and I could cancel after within a 48 hour period. I agreed to this and was even sent an email to confirm. After a month, my children decided that it was not for them so I asked to cancel however, I was told that I needed to give one month notice and I would be charged £121!! I explained that I was mis sold the information. They’ve acknowledged that they sent out misleading information but still deducted the money anyway and are now not refunding the money. I’m absolutely disgusted with this company. Misleading and taking money unfairly. I would not recommend to anyone.
Please do not support crooks
Do be aware that this company takes on temporary staff and do not pay them for their work. I have it on good authority that this has happened more than once. I am writing this because I despise companies that abuse their staff. They do not deserve to be trading. Interestingly, according to Companies House, The Gymnastics Academy Ltd is dissolved as of the end of March 2026 so perhaps this is why they are not paying wages?

Trial sessions
I booked a trial session for my daughter that I couldn’t join and was charged the full fees.
Chris helped me in setting up the subscription with a good offer :)
These people are complete scammers
These people are complete scammers. Their website appears malicious, and the contract contains incorrect and misleading information. They provide false advice, do not obtain proper permission or consent, and have taken unauthorised payments from my account. I would strongly advise others to be cautious.
Taster session to lure you in. Avoid.
I signed up to a taster session. Then was bombarded with cold calls for weeks. Literally getting multiple calls a day! Even after I opted out of the calls and emails. Complete breach of GDPR which I am reporting them about.
Weeks later, I took them up on an offer of £10 for a full month so my daughter could give it a proper try but asked after the 4 weeks I could just cancel and was told yes yes ‘you don’t need to continue, you can just cancel’ Lies! After the 4 weeks I sent my notice to cancel within 48 hours of the final class as per the instruction but told I need to pay £66 for a full months membership to cancel! A lot of back and forth but getting nowhere with them. They don’t care, no customer service at all. Total scammers.
The class itself was okkk - the coaches weren’t very enthusiastic and felt they didn’t have good rapport with the children. Definetly not inspiring.
To add - notice all the ‘Great’ reviews are from people who are calling and speaking to the account manager or customer service - not a lot about the classes themselves. That’s because while they are on the phone to you - they ask you to leave a review and send you the link to Trustpilot while on the phone. This is before you’ve even gone to a class and had a full experience, they are pushing to leave good reviews to try combat all the real bad ones.
Avoid this company. Avoid avoid avoid
Kindness is key
Hi, I spoke to Chris this evening. It had been a long day, and I was feeling very tired and grumpy. Chris worked through everything with me and explained things clearly until we resolved the issue I was having. He was extremely patient and a great listener. I really appreciated the call and felt understood and supported.
