After long thought, I decided to seek console for better wellbeing. I really appreciate the friendly help matching me to my therapist. After a few sessions, I find myself thinking clearer and become more confident in tackling my personal challenges and growth. Thank you!

I've now had 10 sessions with my therapist, and she is amazing. I've worked with several therapists over the last few years, but this is the first time I feel like somebody actually understands me. I didn't really know where to start when I was trying to get into therapy again, but It's Complicated and their matching service made it very easy to find a therapist. I booked my first call within two days, and I have never had any issues with the platform.

I’ve found the best therapist I’ve ever had (in 7 years) here! There’s an amazing database of genuine and skilled professionals here and pricing is adaptable. The platform also makes it very easy to make appointments and to have online sessions.
I’m super grateful !

I studied psychology in Berlin and first heard about this Berlin-based company from many of my classmates. I started my practice on It’s Complicated, and over time the platform brought me more clients than I could actually take on.
It’s Complicated is a directory where you can list your practice for a fee, and you operate independently as a practitioner—similar to freelancing on any other platform. Better help for example has a much more structured program, but they take ALOT of money. I was able to use the feedback and resources provided by the website to improve and refine my profile.
I have heard some people say they didn’t get clients through the platform, but from what I’ve seen, this often has a lot to do with how their profile and services are presented. For example, I once heard someone complain about not getting clients, and when I looked at their profile, I noticed their prices were significantly higher than average given their level of experience and the fact that they offered only online therapy. Even so, over time, I heard that they eventually got enough clients, it just took time.
In my experience, and from what I hear from friends, client flow tends to ebb and flow. I’ve never had an issue with this because that’s simply the nature of freelance work. I often hear people attributing normal ups and downs of freelancing to the platform itself. If someone has an uninviting profile or isn’t performing well in sessions, naturally their practice won’t grow—this isn’t the website’s fault.
In summary, It’s Complicated is a great platform with many useful tools, and I’m grateful for their marketing efforts, which have helped me attract clients. I'm super happy with it. Many of my friends on the platform are also doing well. It does take time to build a steady client base, and ultimately, every therapist is responsible for building strong relationships with their clients to maintain long-term work—just like in any private practice.

I am very happy with the platform. They are very supportive, organise different events and you can get contact to different therapists around the world.

The platform made it super easy for my partner and I to find the support we needed. We were matched to several relevant therapists in our city and ultimately found one with wanted to continue with. Can only recommend!

Respuesta de It's Complicated
I filled out the questionnaire about being matched with a therapist, it was simple and easy and not unbearably long. I also asked for someone to take a look at my questionnaire to personally look for therapists, they responded the next day and we're very nice. A very nice and helpful platform!

The company's response entirely misses the point of my complaint, and I must clarify the facts, especially given the company's subsequent and highly unprofessional actions.
The Core Issue Was Flawed Execution and Misleading UI, Not Policy:
My complaint was never about the verification policy or the need to upload documents for title, location, and ID. I fully understood the policy. The issue was the system's execution. The platform repeatedly presented a contradictory user interface, displaying an urgent, high-priority requirement for "Location verification" documentation—even when my location status already showed as complete and green—while the only actual pending item was a staff double-check on my professional title. This fundamental system flaw and misleading prompt caused weeks of unnecessary work and confusion, requiring excessive manual intervention from my side (multiple follow-up emails to the satff) to resolve what should have been a smooth, automated process. The company has repeatedly refused to acknowledge this specific, documented system error.
Post-Verification Bugs and Lack of Acknowledgment:
Furthermore, the company failed to address the additional, separate UI bug I reported: that the platform continued to prompt me to complete verification even after the process was officially done and acknowledged by their staff. The candid admission by the director that the platform is "far from perfect" and experiencing bugs makes the refusal of a simple goodwill gesture for the wasted time even more disappointing.
Unprofessional Resolution: Account Deletion and Aggressive Communication Claim:
In response to my persistent, yet professional, escalation—which was only necessary because the company's staff failed to acknowledge the system's fundamental error—the director's final action was not to resolve the issue, but to delete my account in accordance with their Terms of Use. My communication was only labeled "aggressive" after:
I received an unhelpful response to my initial complaint to the director.
I published a negative review online.
The director only replied to my final, comprehensive email after I posted the public review.
To blame a user's communication for a system failure and then delete their account rather than acknowledging and addressing a documented bug is a clear and disappointing shift of responsibility. This unprofessional conduct, culminating in the deactivation of my profile, demonstrates a complete lack of commitment to resolving user experience issues or retaining a professional user's business.
On the GDPR Matter:
The director also threatened me with a GDPR complaint for including his full name in the initial review. The name was immediately removed, but as a professional interacting with the company's official representative on a matter of business conduct, the initial review was intended as fair professional feedback.
In summary, the company is prioritizing the defense of its policy over acknowledging the reality of its system's flawed execution and the resulting negative user experience. I cannot recommend a platform that operates with system flaws that waste professional time and responds to valid escalation by removing the user from the platform.

I have not only dealt with abusive people on the website, but I have also had my account flagged for no violation at all. I simply said something that the therapist didn't like and I was flagged. I told them that I wasn't comfortable with how they were speaking and yet I received an account block for that very reason!
I would advise anyone that attempts to use this website, avoid it at all costs! There is no excuse for allowing people to get away with abusive behavior toward people that need help!

🌸 It was super important for me (my nervous system) to find a professional to reveal- and handle my ongoing situation with !!
I really looked forward to meet the therapist BUT her message was unable to open (!).
I cleared the “history/cookies” but I still couldn’t open the message from the therapist- my phone seems to be to old (?).
Therefore I cannot trust this platform since I already sent them an e-mail regarding this problem, which haven’t been replied yet, after 5 days…
There is sadly only one thing to do ;
and that is to delete my account !!

In my opinion, the website Complicated.life poses serious risks to clients seeking therapy. The platform appears to offer a space for therapists who may have legal or ethical issues in their home countries to continue practicing elsewhere without proper oversight. By failing to verify professional licenses or legal registrations, the platform allows individuals to advertise psychotherapy and trauma-related treatments — even in countries like Germany, where such practices are strictly regulated.
From my personal experience, Complicated.life does not protect clients — it protects therapists, including those who may be imposters or practicing illegally. There are no mechanisms for clients to leave reviews, file public complaints, or warn others about misconduct. This lack of transparency enables unethical behavior to go unchecked.
I was emotionally harmed by a therapist I found through this platform. The person took financial advantage of me, retraumatized me during EMDR therapy, and used misogynistic and verbally abusive language. When I tried to address these actions, they denied responsibility and attempted to discredit me by claiming I had mental health problems. It was an experience of emotional abuse, not care.
In my view, Complicated.life creates a dangerous environment for vulnerable people seeking support. I urge anyone considering using the site to verify every therapist’s Approbation (license) directly with the Psychotherapeutenkammer if living in Germany, or relevant health authority before booking. Real mental health care requires accountability, not just an online profile.
It's Complicated really made it simple for me to find a therapist that met my needs and helped me to get started easily. I like that I have a platform specifically dedicated to that to go to for my sessions that runs so smoothly from payment to my online sessions. I've been a year on it and I hope many more! The community of therapist seems great as well.

As a digital nomad therapist, I had been struggling to build my client base online. I had tried many platforms that promised great structure, but either the compensation never felt quite right or the client flow wasn’t sufficient. And that's when I came across It’s Complicated.
Having worked in tech before, the first thing that caught my attention was the intuitive UX. The website felt modern, easy, and comfortable to navigate. After starting my registration, I was invited to a welcome meeting where everything was explained clearly and kindly. The team was responsive, genuinely helpful but not pushy, which immediately gave me confidence to give the platform a real try.
A very fair feature is that we can set our own availability, structure, and fees — something I hadn’t fully been able to do on other platforms. Soon after my listing went live, I began receiving client enquiries, and the frequency steadily grew.
In the meantime, I also discovered the community feature, where practitioners can connect, form intervision groups, find supervisors, organise events (online and even offline), or simply meet for a casual Friday coffee chat. It’s something truly authentic — people are engaged, open, and supportive — an initiative I hadn’t come across before on similar websites. I didn’t just build my caseload here; I also found a sense of belonging that I hadn’t experienced before as a location-independent psychologist.
Another refreshing factor is how approachable everyone is. Not only fellow members, but also the founders, developers, and support team, all of whom come from mental health backgrounds themselves. They genuinely understand the challenges and joys of our field. The team is consistently available, encouraging, and deeply committed to helping each professional thrive. They take their time to personally chat with you and explain the small details on whatever difficulty you come across, and they always have a friendly word. (So refreshing to experience this attitude in world of AI chatbots...)
To make the most of the opportunities offered, I joined the Matching and EAP programmes, attended the “How to Grow Your Practice” workshop, and refined my profile — and the clients kept coming. Within eight months, I had built a full, flourishing practice entirely through It’s Complicated. The built-in payment, invoicing, and reporting features, along with the handy notes and calendar functions, make it very easy to run one’s business and reduce administrative time through automation. (More time for clients, trainings, or simply personal life.)
Two years later, I now have a full caseload with a waitlist, a safe and steady income, and a supportive network of colleagues. Through case discussions, educational events, and shared experiences, there’s constant opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. I’ve been inspired to organise mental health events, run workshops, facilitate group therapy, and speak at conferences — and I continue to feel motivated and full of new ideas. Along the way, I’ve also made lasting friendships, something I didn’t expect and it's beautiful.
It’s Complicated has helped me grow my practice and provided a safe, connected professional home. Whether one's goal is to expand client base, grow professionally, or simply maintain a stable and meaningful online practice, It’s Complicated offers the support needed. I’m truly grateful that the cool designs on their homepage caught my attention two years ago.
