Great:) I really appreciate this platform; it has been a turning point of my life to be associated with it and I appreciate all the walks of lives that I have encountered there so far.

It’s Complicated is a user-friendly, therapy-led suite of services built into a platform that has allowed me to return to my beloved profession, after many years facing road blocks trying to return to professional practice in a foreign country. For this alone l would rate it 5 stars. However the best part about Its Complicated is the people: from those who dreamed it, built it, from Communications to IT, to the founders themselves. Not forgetting the practitioners it attracts: diverse, skilled, authentic. It’s Complicated encourages a sharing of our expertise, in the spirit of continued professional development, and a strong sense of community. I have not only returned to meaningful work, l have found my tribe.

My journey with It’s Complicated began around the end of the pandemic, at a time when I had just moved to a new country and was feeling uncertain about how I would continue practicing my profession. Since then, I’ve been actively using the platform for about four years, providing both online and offline support to clients from all around the world. I’ve also witnessed how much It’s Complicated has evolved and grown over time — how genuinely it values and incorporates feedback from clinicians and clients alike to offer the best possible service. I’m truly happy to be part of this platform.

Connecting counsellors around Europe and providing them the sense of unity. In addition, the platform has helped me to connect with a wide range of international clients around the world. Finally, I really appreciate the fact that the platform is open to different categories of psychologists and it is not being exclusive. Like, not only psychoanalysts and clinical psychologists, but also other types of counseling and coaching psychologists are welcome to apply, so that is something I particularly and genuinely appreciate about the ITC Platform.

It's Complicated was founded and created by a group of therapists in Germany. Because of this, and probably because of the core values of the people behind It's Complicated, this platform feels incredibly accessible to both therapists and clients. I have been on It's Complicated for a year now and have given more than a 100 session already. It's Complicated has been a game changer in my practice, solving a long standing question I had since beginning my own private practice: "How can I let the world know I am here to help, and can do so competently?". The engineers at It's Complicated, a small team I had the fortune to meet, is also super warm and curious about what we think and want as therapist, so they keep designing the platform and the features on all the feedback they receive, directly and indirectly. It's Complicated is also perhaps exception in another way, in that there is this whole community platform that stands behind the interface where clients find us. The Community platform literally gives you access to hundreds of other therapists that you can ask questions to and network with, whether it's because you are looking for a Supervisor, or because you are unsure about what to charge for your services. I don't use any other therapist directory. I am very happy with the quality of the leads I get, and have enough work, together with my own word of mouth leads. Finally I think the subscription options are quite accessible. I am still on the basic tier, but joined the matching program. In this sense I don't know what's the best option to take, but starting slow and trying it out without incurring much of a cost was my first goal. After three months it became obvious that the leads I was getting were paying for the subscription and more.

IC platform is a great space to connect with clients, be helpful to them, and gain a sense of connection for yourself, while also developing new peer relationships. It is a valuable resource in growing my practice and building my community group. I'm proud to be a part of IC.

Super helpful to build or reinforce a practice as an independent psychologist.

Hands down, the best therapist community and directory I’ve ever found. It was the stepping stone that allowed me to launch my own private practice. Great support from the team at every step. Highly recommended.

It's Complicated is the only platform that I know that is really working for therapists. We really feel that it's built by and for therapists, without venture capital. The tools work well, the team is dedicated and reactive, and after more than two years of working with It's Complicated, I would absolutely recommed it to colleagues!

I have spent a lot of time on the website trying to receive the help that I need, but I've noticed that I was getting reported for reasons that didn't make sense to me. It seems like Therapists on the website are allowed to flag your profile regardless of the circumstances. Otherwise I've been reported for a series of misunderstandings. Nevertheless, this was unjust since I feel as though I have done nothing wrong. It seems like the website doesn't take this very seriously and perhaps that means that they don't take people needing help seriously either. I would advise anyone seeking help to look elsewhere.

Terrible experience. The therapist, who barely spoke English, was extremely unprofessional and had absolutely no expertise, advice or understanding even. This encounter was really bad, I was perplexed during the session, a waste of time and money, and it affected my overall opinion about psychotherapy; It almost left me with 0 motivation to continue to reach out to someone.

I connected with a lovely therapist through the It's Complicated workplace programme. Being an expat in Berlin, I've found it difficult to navigate the system and connect with English-speaking therapists. It's Complicated made it easy.

I’ve used the it’s complicated platform now for close to 5 years, with the same therapist I matched with after exploring my options for a few months. The duration and quality of our relationship is testament to the strengths of the platform; which is built on an ethos of community and a therapist-centric approach.
From a user perspective, I found the search experience great and almost all of our appointments seamless. I’m grateful to be able to support such a wonderful community while enjoying all of the long term benefits of quality therapy!

It’s Complicated is the most thoughtful and supportive therapy platform I’ve come across. From the very first interaction, it feels intentional, safe, and deeply human – exactly what you need when taking the vulnerable step of reaching out for help.
What really sets It’s Complicated apart is the care they put into matching you with the right therapist. There are no rushed or random pairings, it’s about long-term support and genuine connection.
I’ve felt seen and taken seriously throughout the process, and my therapist has been a tremendous source of guidance during a time when I really needed it.
I wholeheartedly recommend It’s Complicated to anyone who wants to prioritize their mental health and is looking for a platform where professionalism and real human care go hand in hand.

Excellent Platform but with a Sinister Undercurrent.
I’m an established therapist with 20+ years in mental health, and I’ve used It’s Complicated for several years. It’s a brilliant platform—intuitive, well-designed, and invaluable to my practice.
But beneath the slick surface, there’s a thinly veiled contempt for gay people.
Same-sex attracted people cannot choose to match with same-sex attracted therapists. Every other protected characteristic gets a filter—race, religion, neurodiversity—but not LGB. Instead, the platform forces users into the politically bloated acronym “LGBTQIA+”: a vague, catch-all label that now includes straight people who identify as “queer” for social clout.
LGB describes a specific minority: people who are not heterosexual. “TQIA+” includes heterosexuals. So LGBTQIA+ now means everyone—and same-sex attracted people have lost a distinct, visible category.
If a minority group can’t be named, it can’t be protected. And maybe that’s the point.
I’ve raised this issue multiple times. What I got was a masterclass in corporate gaslighting and evasion.
I asked for a conversation, I was ignored.
I asked them to define “queer.” They refused—probably because no one can. Yet we’re expected to have our identities bundled under a word no one can define.
They said “LGBTQIA+” is based on current clinical guidance. I asked for a source. Silence. Because there is none. They seem to have lied to make me stop asking inconvenient questions.
They said it was “policy”—but refused to provide the policy even though they are legally obliged to do so.
Eventually, I raised concerns that their system may be unlawful. Their response?
“We see no legal, ethical, or user experience basis for adding an LGB-only filter. You’re welcome to pursue any external remedies you consider appropriate. Our position is final.”
No justification. No dialogue. Just arrogance and PR-speak.
Every time I asked for clarity, I was stonewalled with the same word, repeated like a mantra:
INCLUSION. INCLUSION. INCLUSION.
They use it with cult like devotion in all correspondence, like they believe if they say it enough times they magically escape the inconvenience of Logic, reality and accountability. (If they comment on this review, I bet they‘ll use it).
I asked what “inclusion” actually means. They refused to answer. I doubt they even know. It just feels virtuous and righteous to say.
Let’s be clear: if the platform offered separate filters—LGB, T, and QIA—no one would be excluded. That would be more inclusive. The refusal to do this suggests that “inclusion” isn’t the goal—theres something else going on.
After six weeks of stonewalling, I followed their advice and escalated the issue to regulators.
Only then did they engage in anything close to conversation - now they MIGHT consider an LGB option—if they get feedback that it’s needed. But the platform has already erased us. You can’t get feedback from people you’ve made invisible.
They also said they’d consult “those most affected”—but who exactly do they think that is, if not same-sex attracted people?
We’ve been bundled in with straight people who’ve colonised our language for identity projects and branding. It’s Complicated isn’t giving that stolen ground back—not willingly.
And that’s what makes this so disappointing. The platform is excellent. But usability doesn’t excuse unethical design. They’ve chosen fashionable ideology over clarity, clinical integrity, and the rights of same-sex attracted people.
This reflects a broader, darker trend in mental health—where ideology overrides evidence and slogans replace reason.
It’s Complicated could be part of the way out of this darkness if they had the courage. But based on my experience, courage—along with self awareness and honesty—is something they severely lack.
Five stars for design. Minus several for ethics.
I’m posting this because people have a right to know what “LGBTQIA+” really means in practice.
(Spoiler: it doesn’t mean “same-sex attracted.”not anymore).
EDIT: See below for a case study in evasive progressive gibberish.
On first read, it sounds meaningful, but then read it again and, slowly, and try to pin down any coherent concept. It‘s just an EDI buzzword salad: ´complexity´, 'diversity'. `nuance', 'lived experience', ‘human connection‘ - emotionally loaded, vaguely warm sounding and utterly meaningless.
Text book emotional manipulation.
This is a performance, not communication - a sentimental shield designed to deflect critique and shut down dissent.
This is what I‘ve been trying to reason with - evasive deflection and strategic avoidance of clarity. Clear answers would require clear thinking, and that would reveal how naked the emperor is.

Starting therapy can feel incredibly overwhelming, but itscomplicated.life genuinely makes the process so much easier and helped me a lot. It's a much-needed change compared to some other well-known platforms out there...
While some services, like BetterHelp, might seem to simplify things, but there are also frequent concerns over therapist quality and a general feeling of being just another number in a system. I personally paid for almost a year of therapy on BetterHelp, and honestly, I felt it was mostly a waste of time and money. Over the past years, there have also been some scandals surrounding scummy practices such as significant data sharing and privacy concerns.
With itscomplicated, my experience has been entirely different. While I can't speak about the general quality of all therapists on the platform, looking at many profiles, they certainly appear professional and highly qualified. It was on their platform that I found a therapist that really helped me but I also appreciate that it's not a subscription model.
Their matching service is truly great. In my case, I received an answer quite quickly, and the response was incredibly kind and genuine. It absolutely did not feel like a robotic, templated message, which made a huge difference in feeling supported right from the start.
If you're looking for a more human, supportive, and privacy-conscious way to connect with a therapist, I highly recommend giving itscomplicated.life a try.
