Gold plated Ring tarnished after 3 hours and no refund
My 12-year-old daughter spent all her pocket money on a gold-plated ring from the NABI London stall at Greenwich Market. She was excited about her first jewellery purchase, but within 3 hours of wearing it — with no exposure to soap, water, or sanitiser — the ring visibly discoloured. Her finger and phone case were left with a bluish residue, and the gold beads on the ring turned grey.
I contacted NABI London with photos and the receipt, but they refused a refund, claiming that discolouration isn’t considered a fault. They offered a paid replating service — for a ring that tarnished the same day it was purchased.
According to the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. This clearly wasn’t. I expected better customer service — particularly when dealing with a child’s first jewellery experience.
A refund would have gone a long way in demonstrating integrity and goodwill. Instead, we’re left very disappointed and out of pocket.

At NABI London, we take care to inform all customers — both in-store and online — that our gold-plated jewellery is fashion jewellery and may naturally react to external conditions such as individual skin chemistry, heat, or humidity. We provide printed care instructions with each purchase, and these points were shared at the time of sale at Greenwich branch.
As the ring was not broken or faulty but experienced expected discolouration due to wear, our refund policy does not apply. However, we offered a professional replating service at cost price as a goodwill gesture, which many customers find helpful in such cases.
We understand your frustration and respect your reference to the Consumer Rights Act 2015. We remain committed to clear communication and fair policies for all our customers, and we will continue to review our processes to ensure transparency and consistency going forward.

We’ve reviewed your order and can confirm that the contents you received total over £36 in value, which is well above the £15 paid. The jewellery items included were all part of our regular collection, and we also added a hair scrunchie as a free gift, separate from the mystery box items, as a kind gesture.
As stated in the product description, mystery boxes contain a random selection of products. While we do our best to create a beautiful and varied mix, we understand that not every selection may suit everyone’s personal taste. However, we can assure you that all items included were brand new, unused, and meet our standard of quality.
