The survey was organised very well and the surveyor turned up in the given time slot. The survey process went fine, but it was done on a Thursday afternoon and I had to wait until two Mondays after this was done to receive my home report, basically seven working days and two weekends. This was in my mind too long. The surveyor told me the value a couple of hours before releasing the home report, as it was a bit less than I'd hoped, I asked if it could be upped a bit. I was told a very flat no. It was pushing the value as it was. This may be the case, but I had absolutely no input into the valuation figure. I went with Shepherd as I'd heard favourable reports about the company. After this experience, if I ever need a surveyor again, or get asked to recommended one, I will not be putting Shepherd forward.

Surveyor carried out the work in a very courteous and professional manner. It was completed in timely fashion, very soon after the request, with no disruption to the house. A fully comprehensive report was provided less than 48 hours from the survey being carried out.

After two years Shepherd Chartered Surveyors were found to have provided us with a Level II Valuation and Survey that failed to identify numerous defects within the property. A payout was made. would not recommend the service.

Phoned Shepherds Surveyors on the 9/01/23 wanting a valuation.
I received email agreeing to terms and conditions read it and sent email on the 10/01/23 .
And never heard anything which I feel is rude and bad mannered.
I am just off the phone after being told I have maybe fallen through the net !!
If we were all to fall through the net would they still be in business I asked .
Purple Bricks Estate Agents actually recommend this company.. which leads to two questions
1. Does your property need to be in the process of going to market…. Which mine isn’t.
2. Do Purple Bricks have a vested interest in Shepherds Surveyors …

Where do I start? This company has no professionalism in anything they do. They issued a home report with majority category 1s only a few number 2s. However, having purchased the property it was evident they failed to note any defects and this has lead to a substantial cost requiring structures to be rebuilt and should have been 3s. Having taken this through their complaints procedure rather than holding their hands up and admit their failings they tried to offer some child like excuses. Having now taken it through CEDR they noted that 'the company failed to provide its services to the standard reasonably expected regarding the
Single Survey' Even during the complaints process they couldn't even be bothered to adhere to timelines. They hide behind communications with no name. They shouldn't be in business. Warning- do not use them their reports are not worth anything.

They claimed "EPCs over 12 weeks old are not valid for marketing" Scottish Government say they are valid for 10 years! They gave us a new one which is different from what we have (generated less than a year ago!). They say "they did not have U-Values so they generated it by default" how could you generate an EPC without knowing what U-Values are????!!!!! This is the level of professionalism and honesty from this firm!

Shepherds produced a home report for a house we purchased recently. The report looked good with all areas of the survey given category 1, and just one category2. However, once the purchase was complete and we moved in we found a number of errors, some minor which were missed, a leaky cylinder, twisted widows, etc., but one major which could have had a life threatening consequence. We have complained to Shepherds but they refuse to answer simple questions, pay for the repairs or compensate us for their errors. I would not trust their report ever again. Their complaints investigation procedure is a joke, I asked for simple answers to questions, i.e. how can something in need of repair or something they didn't even see be given category 1? They basically couldn't answer and responded with waffle then refused to communicate further so still no answers! Useless and unprofessional.

Update 18th August, after a drawn out complaints process with Shepherds still not admitting they were at fault the Adjudicator has found Shepherds " has failed in part to provide its services to the customer to the standard to be reasonably expected by the average person and, as such, the customer has suffered a financial loss or other disadvantage as a result of a failing by the company". The question remains, are there many more cases like ours when shoddy surveys have cost others?
