Fantastic Residential Dog Training

We booked in our 6month old GoldenDoodle for a 3 week residential training stay with Bekki in Southampton From Adolescent Dogs. Before the stay our home had become very chaotic as the young puppy was busy bullying our toddler and 13 year old lab, everyone was very stressed and I felt totally out of my depth on training and how to resolve the unwanted behaviour. This was without a doubt the best decision we could have made. After 3 weeks with Bekki, Zelda returned home a much much calmer dog and is now a total delight to share a home with. Instantly the dominating had totally stopped, she now settles beautifully in the home. Walking is no longer a stressful chore and I’m back to feeling excited about getting out for a calming stroll. There are still a few training areas we want to progress that given lockdown weren’t able to be that successful, so have booked Zelda back in for a top up stay once public areas start to reopen so she can work on distraction training. Our trainer is just awesome, felt instantly reassured that Zelda was being well cared for, lots of updates, and has been available for checkins post training to ensure we stay on track. The online training videos are also an amazing resource that are helping me maintain the training. Would highly recommend this service.

Happy Cockapoo Puppy

We brought home a cockapoo puppy at the end of December and very quickly started weekly 1-2-1 training sessions with Libby. This gave our puppy a great starting point with the simplest obedience skills such as knowing his own name, sit and down. Little Fred then went to stay with Verity for a 2 week intensive boarding course and he did brilliantly. We received daily updates and photos to let us know how he was getting on. We then had two handover lessons after Fred's stay to train us humans. I think it's important to keep in mind that the training doesn't end when the dog comes home. It is still a lot of hard work to keep it up and reinforce the behaviours learned during a workshop or a residential stay. We have found the process challenging but very rewarding. We adore our little Fred and look forward to attending some workshops with him in the future. Thank you Libby and Verity!

Adolescent dogs trained our two adult…

Adolescent dogs trained our two adult Labradors to behave better in public. We sent the dogs on a residential course with trainer Bekki - who worked very professionally with them. Bekki clearly loves dogs and by the end of the course had made great progress. She was realistic about what could and couldnt be achieved in the time available. Adolescent Dogs has some great training videos which have helped us to better understand what we need to do to reinforce Bekki's training.

10/10 would recommend Adolescent Dogs!

If your pup (of any age) needs any kind of training I would 100% recommend Adolescent Dogs, especially Kassie! My sweet Buki was never a bad pup but he did 2 weeks residential training with Kassie while my husband and I were away. As soon as we met Kassie began informing me of little things she noticed and could tell she would need to work on with Buki and throughout his training she provided feedback and updates. Buki, who was 15 weeks at the time, learned so much and grew more confident. Buki loved Kassie and you could tell how much she cared for him while we were away which is my priority. They provide so many sources and ways for you to prep your dog for his/her stay and then to continue to train your dog afterwards. We were very impressed with their services and professionalism. They know dogs, they know their craft and they also help owners be the best parents to their pups. They give you realistic feedback and advice. We are already planning the next time we take Buki back. They offer many different training services so they are definitely someone to checkout for any kinds of training needs.

Kassie was amazing at Adolescent Dogs

Our 12 week old cocker spaniel puppy was put into a two week train and board with trainer Kassie. We could not take him to Ireland with us for Xmas so we were a bit anxious about putting him into board. Kassie was amazing how she cared for him in her own house. Kassie kept us updated during the stay with pictures, videos and daily updates which put our minds at ease. When we picked Cody up he had learnt so much during his stay ( sit, down, middle, heal, recall, lead walking and general engagement was much improved). Kassie also focussed on him becoming more aware of new environments which helped make him a more confident pup ! The two handover sessions were great with lots of detail shared. I would highly recommend Adolescent Dogs and Kassie was amazing.

Fantastic training!

Our Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy went on the Collect and Train program with Jolene for 3 weeks. Prior to the training Simba would pull on walks (which weren’t very fun!) jump at any opportunity and do his on thing when called! Jolene was fantastic, came to our house to meet us and Simba before training and went through our ‘wish list’! It was evident that Simba loves his training sessions and came back exhausted! After the training walks were more pleasurable and we were all able to function better as a unit! I would highly recommend Adolescent Dogs, the handovers have been fantastic and have given us a great start!

Warning County Court Judgement.

I booked our two dogs for two weeks home boarding and training for our younger dog for late June 2019.

After paying a £1400 deposit I contacted the company on multiple occasions to set up a meeting with the trainer “Ola” and to request the trainers contact details. Jenny Trigg refused to either set up the agreed meeting or provide any contact information; insisting that the trainer would contact us. We had agreed as a condition of our booking in a telephone conversation with Libby Trigg that we would meet with the trainer at least one month prior to the start of of the booking dates.

We received no contact prior to the deadline and so booked with another trainer and demanded a refund.

Jenny Trigg (the owner and co-director) responded by claiming that the trainer had sent emails, argued that their communication was excellent and attempted to continue as if we would proceed with the booking.

I had to send a second email spelling out in no uncertain terms that we would not be using their service and demanding a refund.

Jenny Trigg’s next response was to attempt to blame us for her own shortcomings and offered a 50% refund as a “good will gesture”. Ms Trigg also attempted to justify her behaviour by claiming that the document they referred to as a “booking form” was a legally binding contract.

Unbeknownst to Jenny Trigg I have dealt with high value contracts for almost two decades and the document she referred to as a “contract” carries no legal weight. It is devoid of any of the required information for a legally binding contract and is a childish attempt to indemnify the company of all future wrong doing (most shockingly for starving your dog). I have never read a more pathetic excuse for a contract; neither have I ever encountered a less transparent contract being presented in business.

At this stage I had also researched other customers negative experiences and was unsurprised to see a pattern of behaviour whereby Adolescent Dogs has attempted to absolve themselves of all blame when things so wrong and they appear to be incapable of taking responsibility for their own shortcomings. More disturbingly I discovered that the company has often sought to bully and belittle consumers who complain.

At this point in time I resolved to teach these thieves a lesson. I am fortunate enough to have the means and the knowledge to dismantle any feeble arguments that they might attempt. I was aware others might feel less equipped to take legal action and I was 100% confident that I would recover my money as the proverbial deck was stacked heavily in my favour.

I emphatically declined their “offer” and informed Ms Trigg that if my money was not refunded in full within 14 days that I would take them to Court.

Jenny Trigg failed to repay our deposit by the deadline set and so I filed and served a claim using the online money claims service (a service that is remarkably simple to use and is a credit to the UK’s legal system).

Upon receiving the claim Adolescent Dogs other co- director Mike Newland submitted a grandstanding response in which he had the audacity to claim that the company had never received a complaint of this nature. In doing so he had immediately committed perjury as multiple similar complaints exist online.
I have not laughed so hard in a long time.

Following filing of the claim both parties are sent a questionnaire which must be completed and sent to both the court service and the other party.

Unsurprisingly Mike Newland failed to answer all of the questions (the company ignored every question I asked after making my booking) and so I raised a point of order to draw attention to their failure (more on this later).

At this stage both parties are asked whether they accept using the court mediation service. I declined as I was aware that in doing so the case would be less likely to be assigned a hearing date until after this was completed but that it would be likely mandated by the presiding judge. Mediation was indeed recommended after the County Court and hearing date were assigned.

I consented to the mediation as I was advised that the judge would likely ask if I had afforded Adolescent Dogs a further opportunity to settle the claim. I was sceptical of entering into mediation as it was clear that Adolescent Dogs had no intention of refunding our money in full. Unsurprisingly Mike Newland attempted to offer the same amount that I had previously declined and so it was a very short mediation. As Einstein is credited with saying “the definition of insanity is repeating the same behaviour and expecting a different result”.

I was confident in winning my case but I also wanted to ensure a CCJ would appear on the defendants credit records. I was aware that by going to court that the amount of debt would increase as I would be paying the hearing fees. Hurting Adolescent Dogs more as they would be losing their money as opposed to stealing mine.

The penultimate stage of the small claims process is filing and serving the documents to both parties and the court.

Mike Newland clearly had not read the courts instructions which directed both parties to file and serve paper copies of documents and that electronic submissions were not valid and send his bundle by email the evening before the deadline. Upon receiving this I burst out laughing at his incompetence.

Mike Newland was swiftly informed the next day by the court that electronic submissions were not permitted and so missed the deadline to file and serve.

I gleefully wrote another letter to the court drawing attention to the fact that Adolescent Dogs had failed to meet the deadline. This only served to strengthen my case as again it highlighted Adolescent Dogs were incapable of following others directions and meeting a deadline.

Three days later I received a bundle from the defendant and was unsurprised to learn that, having received my bundle before the deadline, they attempted to add additional documents not in the email submission in an attempt to tailor evidence. The bundle also included a cover sheet where Mike Newland attempted to blame an unnamed member of the court service for missing the deadline who he claimed had told him that electronic submissions were “ok” in a telephone conversation the day before the deadline.

I telephoned the court service to verify whether any such telephone conversation had taken place and to make them aware of the allegation made against them. No record of the defendant telephoning the court service exists on the day Mike Newland claimed to have telephoned. The court service employee I spoke to was more than happy to send me an email stating this fact for me to pass on to the presiding judge. It is unsurprising that again Adolescent Dogs attempted to blame somebody else for their mistake.

I also discovered that my previous petition to the court had be named “harassment emails” as a file in the evidence submitted by Mike Newland. Again I was in stitches laughing. It is common practice to copy the other party into communication with a court of law. The fact that Adolescent Dogs thought that somehow this constituted harassment is hilarious. A person must have a very warped sense of right and wrong when they steal from somebody and cry victim when the wronged party takes legal action.

Armed with the knowledge that Mike Newland was stupid enough to attempt to tailor evidence and was again blaming others for his shortcomings I again sent a letter to the court and included the helpful email from the court service employee that exposed another lie.

Prior to the hearing I received a letter from the court service advising me that as a hearing date had been set and that as the claim was defended that no default judgement would be issued. I was also informed that a N225 form was needed to issue a default judgement rather than a letter.

I telephoned the court service to enquire where I might find the form and was advised that as a default judgement could be appealed I would save time by attending a hearing. The court service also informed me that the defendant was most upset having received copies of my petitions. Poor Mike Newland getting caught out in yet another lie. Hearing this news brought a wry smile to my face.

On the day of the hearing I was directed to a waiting room at Guildford County Court where half a dozen people were smartly dressed in suits, shirts and ties. One person clearly did not understand the value of dressing formally for court and the value of first impressions. Mike Newland was slouched on a seat wearing a hoodie, jeans and trainers. His dishevelled appearance was equally comical and moronic.

The hearing itself was over before it began. The judge asked Mike Newland if he had bothered to read any of the pertinent legislation I referred to in my evidence. Unsurprisingly Mike Newland had not. The judge immediately awarded me the full amount of my claim plus interest and the court fees.

Jenny Trigg and Mike Newland have been tried tested and found wanting. They now have a CCJ against them. I personally telephoned the credit rating agencies immediately after my hearing to ensure that this information appears on their credit file. I took great glee in doing so as a CCJ is a matter of public record.

Hopefully this will teach both Jenny Trigg and Mike Newland a lesson that they will not forget and in future they will treat consumers with the respect they deserve and take responsibility for any mistakes they make. Every person makes mistakes but how we respond to them defines our character and trustworthiness.

If Adolescent Dogs do not change their behaviour then they should know that there is always a bigger bully out there who won’t be easily intimidated.

Thank you Adolescent Dogs and the brilliant Verity

We have an 8 year old rescue which most would say is a gentle giant however he had a habit of drifting off into his own little world and as a result would do what he wanted when he wanted. Not helpful when he was running off in the opposite direction not answering to his name or paying any attention at all. We tried different training regimes but admitted defeat. We realised that he needed training and we then needed training. We felt the best way was an immersive experience for Sunny which would mean residential training. Having explored the internet and read many reviews we came across Adolescent Dogs. So thrilled that we did. Verity was our allocated trainer. She looked after Sunny and engaged with him so well. Sunny is our world and it was very important that he had a positive experience. His behaviour reflected that he had a great time. Not only did Verity have an exceptional understanding of ‘dog’ she also understood ‘anxious parents’ 😁. She kept us informed of Sunny’s progress with lots of photos and emails which we really appreciated. We could see Sunny improving with his engagement and see the joy he was having. The training we had was informative and positively motivational so that we feel better equipped with knowledge and understanding. Thankfully Sunny is quite forgiving and still does what Verity taught him despite our clumsy efforts.
This has been a really great experience for us all and we would highly recommend Adolescent Dogs Ltd and especially Verity to any other dog owners who are willing to admit that they need help.

Fantastic, caring dog trainers

It was lovely to pick up our two year old dog, Teddy from Kassie yesterday (with Naomi too) and I have to say we are all thrilled to have her back home. Especially because she has come home with impeccable good manners and a generally calmer demeanor, not to mention some brilliant new skills - all of which are a huge tribute to the skills of your trainers, Kassie and Naomi. We feel very lucky to have had both these talented trainers work with our dog over the past couple of years, whilst we have been on holidays. This time, she stayed with Kassie who instantly understood our dog and has provided a wonderful home away from home for her whilst we were on holiday.
I am so grateful to have found Adolescent Dogs and, in particular Kassie and Naomi. Thank you so much for providing such a fantastic service. The training clearly makes our dog feel much calmer, confident and contented. We simply couldn't be happier with how she was looked after.
Thank you very much.

We are really happy with our experience…

We are really happy with our experience with Adolescent dogs and would do it again. Rebecca was brilliant, gave us lots of photos and feed back during Chester’s stay. The handover was good and we learned a lot. Our follow up session was good too as I found out that we’d been doing some things wrong and Rebecca helped us put them right. We’re still in touch with Rebecca and have asked for advice on Chester and I can’t say enough how happy we are. Our relationship with Chester is better as we feel we can keep him calmer and happier. We are still training him every day and he is a really happy dog.

Hendricks the Labrador

We contacted Adolescent Dogs to help with Hendricks our very lively 15 month old Labrador he stayed with Rebecca for 4 weeks to begin with and he has been back for a further week rather than going into kennels, Rebecca got to grips with his high energy impulses quickly and showed great care and dedication, Hendricks is now a lot calmer and continues to progress it’s hard work but he has had a great start, can’t thank Rebecca enough

fantastic! Changed our lives completely!

During Kali’s stay at adolescent dogs she was with trainer Naomi. Before she went we would drive to a field 2 minutes away and leave if another dog arrived! She would bark and lunge at dogs and pull my arm of when walking on the lead! After her stay we walk to the field (nicely on the lead)😀 and we put all our training into action when other dogs arrive which means myself and Kali are able to enjoy our walks! The communication between myself and Naomi was brilliant whilst kali was away! Daily updates and I continued to see improvements in kali everyday! Improvements that are continuing now home! Naomi was very encouraging for us to ask any question about training or areas we didn’t understand, which is great! This has completely changed Kali’s life as well as mine, making it more enjoyable and meaning were able to do more!
I can’t recommend adolescent dogs enough! And we will hopefully have a catch up with Naomi in the future!

Excellent Training, Amazing Results!

After a couple of bad experiences with large dogs our border terrier had become very reactive around other dogs. We started with the on-line course, and then Herbie went for a 4 week residential stay with a trainer.

The on-line course gave him and I a good grounding in training which was continued during his stay. When we collected him from Naomi the the transformation was immediately obvious. He is generally much more calm and relaxed and he is now enjoying going out for walks with out constantly worrying about the other dogs we meet. We both now enjoy our walks and I have confidence that I can help him cope better when we do meet another dog.

We had regular pictures and updates while he was staying with Naomi and 2 training sessions since he has come home. We also in regular email contact and I can ask for help with any queries we have.

I am so pleased with how Herbie has progressed and can't thank Adolescent Dogs and Naomi enough.

Fantastic, Amazing Training

The handover was great, Bekki was wonderful, you could just see how much care and attention she had given to Alfie

Alfie is like a different dog, he seems far more relaxed, listens to instructions (most of the time), does not seem so anxious and is a pleasure to go out walking with

We are aware that it is up too is to continue the work with him and look forward to meeting up with Bekki shortly for our second handover lesson

We are now looking to send him for a further 2 weeks later this year when we go away, knowing that he will be in the best possible care

Thank you so much...

I can’t begin to thank Shamyla enough, she was fantastic with our little Olive who was 6 months old (when we adopted her) and had never left the house. Needless to say she was petrified of the outdoor world, she refused to leave the house for days. My partner and I were at a loose end, googled for hours about the ‘best’ things to do. We were flooded with so many techniques, opinions and recommendations. After watching the videos on AD website .. we saw hope and confident that they could help us. Communication from the start was punctual and welcoming. Answered my many many questions over several days (anxious mum). I then spoke to the trainer Shamyla and straight away I knew she was the trainer for us.
She never pushed Olive, she took things at her pace. Olive is not a massive foodie but she responds so well to praise and that is what she got for the 4 weeks training with Shamyla, which has really changed her from a shell of a puppy into a confident puppy who now jumps up to put her head through the harness at walk time.
Olive had no idea of anything other than a house and a crate, she had no idea what ‘sit’ meant nor ‘down’. Her confidence was zero, we knew Shamyla was amazing and super capable but when we returned to see Olive at the end of week 4. We were just speechless. She could walk nicely on the lead, come when called, recall with distraction and so many other things.
Our first night home we were sceptical about how long this would last and I’m so happy to say things are exactly the same. No more barking at 6am, barking when we left the room and no more pacing when we left a room. Olive can now settle without a crate, she sees us leave the room and she will either be not phased or look and then settle. We had a WhatsApp group chat and we had daily updates on Olive which were really nice as we missed her so much.
I know how stressful and worrying it can be when finding the right training for you and your fur baby. I looked at so many residential schools but none had the warmth and home environment I wanted for Olive.
Best money ever spent.

Lucky competition win for desperate dog owners

We were lucky enough to win a 2 week residential stay for our 19 month old Cockapoo Barney in their Xmas competition. The communication from the point they notified us of our win was second to none and we knew immediately that Barney would be in great hands. However this didn't stop us becoming anxious about sending Barney away for 2 weeks. However our trainer was amazing and very quickly put our minds at rest with photos from day 1. This continued throughout his stay along with regular updates and videos showing the amazing progress he was making. It was obvious that Barney was very happy and settled living with his trainer. During the handover session our trainer talked through and demonstrated all the commands she had taught and were given time to practice these with her help and guidance. A 2nd handover session was delivered 2 weeks later to help consolidate everything we had learnt. Our trainer made it very clear that we could contact her by phone or e.mail for any extra help and support - an invaluable tool which we have already used. Barney is still a cheeky chappy but much calmer since his residential stay. There is still "work to be done" but we now have the support and guidance we previously needed and were sadly missing. As a result we are far more confident 1st time dog owners. Thank you so much Adolescent Dogs for all your help.

Professional, personal and thorough

We sent our 3 month old puppy Stella to Natalie for 4 weeks while we were away over Christmas. As expected, when she left us she was walking all over the place on her lead, was not properly toilet trained, was a real hazard when let off her lead, was cheeky and adorable but not behaving in a way that was sustainable in a busy household with children.
Throughout her training Natalie was so supportive, responsive and caring. I was getting regular updates and photos, and towards the end of her stay Natalie gave me a very candid progress report and suggested that she keep her for a few extra days, to be sure that Stella would come home trained to her full potential.
On the day of the handover my husband and I were blown away. Stella was a different puppy. Still as sweet and playful as ever but now she was reliable, predictable and obedient, and this made every moment with her more enjoyable. Natalie was so patient with us and took her time to explain everything we needed to know. After we came back home I was constantly texting Natalie to ask her for follow-up advice, and she was always responsive and gave me invaluable advice and solutions.
Everyone at Adolescent dogs is so professional - from the communication before training starts, to the training manual for follow-up, the personal attention they pay to your puppy's needs, I was very impressed. They are also very clear however that a lot of the long term results come from the owner's follow-up to training. I found this to be very true.
There was a period when I struggled a bit not to let the bad habits come back, but I had a lot of guidance throughout and today I can say that I have a well behaved sweet puppy who is a delight. She usually is good at listening, remembers her commands, is (almost) perfectly toilet trained - and she is only 6 months!
I would highly recommend Adolescent Dogs and I am still in contact with them today for some follow-up training when I go away.

Excellent stay!

We sent our 2 Boston Terriers to one of the Advanced Junior Trainers for two weeks whilst we were abroad for a family wedding. We were initially a bit apprehensive as we had only left them with family before. All I can say is what a positive experience it has been for us all, we received regular updates, photos and videos of them both and they looked so happy, settled and loved lots of cuddles in their trainers home. They have returned to us having had lots of positive training and both are now much more confident in new situations, especially around people and dogs they don’t know. It has been fantastic to have regular contact with our trainer who has been able to help me with any training queries since the return of the dogs, it has been invaluable. I will definitely be using Adolescence Dogs Ltd again ( and hopefully the same trainer as our girls loved her!) and would highly recommend this service to others!

Marvellous trainer!

I have to say, not just sending Kyo, my 3 month old Labrador, to Adolescent Dog Ltd, but in particular sending him to Bekki Tomkins a senior Juniour trainer...has been the most rewarding, incredible and mostly-miraculous escapade we could have ever done for him. Bekki not only travelled a fair distance to come and collect Kyo, but she was extremely understanding of my situation and where Kyo needed to be for his future trainer to become my assistance dog. Straight away Bekki made a great impression, she was friendly, smiling and straight away greeted Kyo which we loved. It really showed her passion for dogs and for working with adolescent Dogs and it soon became clear this was more than just a job for her. She was smartly dressed in the Adolescent Dogs uniform and had all the equipment she needed to travel back to Southampton with Kyo safely. I immediately felt more reassured that he was in good and well experienced hands. Once he got to Bekki’s house I was notified straight away that he was safe and how the car journey had been. A few hours later Bekki informed me of his progress settling in and I was so pleased by her expertise at handling Kyo’s anxieties I *hadn’t* mention I felt I could wait the 24 hours for a full update. True to her word, Bekki contacted me 24 hours later and she was happy to adjust the level of contact based on my disability and bond with Kyo. I don’t mean she was at the end of the phone, but it was ok for me to text throughout the day even though I didn’t always get immediate responses as stated in there handbook. I loved the fact Bekki was willing to adapt to my situation. She is the best of the best!
The next day, training began. Bekki had fantastic and innovative methods of training dogs whilst working alongside the Adolescent Dogs training methods too. Kyo had picked up and learned so much by week one I was thrilled! By week two Kyo had mastered most (if not all) of the commands we ticked we would like him to learn. He got to go to dog classes and meet other dogs so he became more and more sociable which is vital at a young dogs age. Kyo got to have so many wonderful experiences with Bekki, they went on long treks, to the beach, to garden centres...he got to explore all sorts of things to make him less anxious in busy places etc. I trusted Bekki’s judgement 100%. I knew, with her wealth of experience, she wouldn’t put him in a situation he couldn’t cope with and if he showed signs she would know exactly what to do.
I have been so highly impressed by Bekki. She has been worth every single penny we spent and I find it hard to decipher how she is still classed as a ‘junior’!
On Tuesdays Adolescent Dogs would take photos Bekki had taken and put them on their Facebook page. I got to see some beautiful Tuesday photos from Bekki and every Friday you will receive a report on how your dog is doing in their training. Bekki’s first write up about Kyo was very professionally done as were week two and three, including lots of brilliant details about the outcome of each week and the plans for the next.
The end goal for Kyo is that he will become my assistance dog as I am bed bound most of the time and I only want to out for Kyo the rest! So him and me had already formed really a strong bond and Bekki said it was fine to email etc as much as I liked but she could only reply sometimes (which I have touched upon above) I will say this- she was marvellous at replying. Every question and query I had, she got back to me on it the same day. Bekki didn’t once let us down via communication and she was outstanding in her knowledge of dogs and what we should be buying for his return. I don’t think I’ll ever meet another professional with such compassion and a love for the job she’s in.
Bekki has been a real life saver for me, if that had been someone that only replied once every few days I don’t think I would have managed with him being away as much!
All in all, Bekki is a star in the making-I couldn’t be any happier with her. Thank you so much Bekki for providing us, but most of all Kyo, with such a fantastic start in his life.
